At our academy, we recognize the importance of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) as a strength-based developmental process that equips students with the knowledge, skills & attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, feel and show empathy for others, maintain positive relationships, and make responsible, caring decisions.

Incorporating SEL inside and outside the classroom helps our students become healthy, resilient, and well-rounded individuals. Our program emphasizes skills in self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making.

Moreover, SEL helps students increase self-control and make responsible decisions when faced with challenges. By teaching students to understand and manage their emotions, we empower them to handle stress, set goals, and overcome obstacles. This holistic approach to education not only supports academic success, but also prepares students for a fulfilling and balanced life beyond school.

Students who are equipped to handle the challenges that affect them on a personal level are then better able to navigate the pressures and challenges they will face in their future. SEL is beneficial to both children and their guardians as it increases positive behaviors in both the classroom and at home.

Dozer's Breakroom

We recognize that our students may experience challenges that cause stress, anxiety, and the like. In response, Dozer's Breakroom is a space for students to take time to reset, speak with a counselor, and regain a positive mindset before returning to class. Students can engage in multisensory activities such as puzzles, art-making, listening to music, or simply relax in a calming environment with lower stimulation. This supportive environment offers students the opportunity to work through challenges and receive guidance from professionals as needed.

In the Classroom

At RAA, we prioritize Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in our classrooms, fostering holistic development for our students. We spend the year covering key areas to support students' personal and social growth. Our students will engage in stimulating activities and thought-provoking conversations that relate to a variety of personal skills.

In self-awareness, students learn to identify and manage their emotions, seek help when needed, and understand their impact on the community. Self-management focuses on self-control, responsibility, and recognizing the connection between attitude and growth. Social awareness helps students identify and respond to social cues, appreciate diverse backgrounds and viewpoints, understand biases, and show respect for others. Through relationship skills, students learn to choose friends wisely, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, and understand the importance of mentors. Responsible decision-making involves understanding cause and effect, connecting problems to solutions, analyzing situations from multiple perspectives, and learning from experiences. Our vice principal, who has years of experience as a trained school counselor, teaches the students and assists teachers in setting up systems to reinforce this learning. This comprehensive approach ensures our students are equipped with the skills they need to thrive both academically and personally.

Behavior Guidance, Prevention & Intervention

At RAA, we are committed to fostering a positive and safe learning environment through effective behavior guidance, prevention, and intervention strategies on our K-12 campus. Our primary focus is on prevention, implementing proactive measures to encourage positive behavior and minimize issues before they arise. However, if a behavioral incident does occur, we prioritize the safety of our students and staff while addressing the situation in the most redemptive way possible. Our approach involves understanding the root causes of behavior, providing support to those involved, and facilitating restorative practices to promote personal growth and accountability. This balanced strategy ensures a respectful and nurturing environment where every student can thrive.
